"LAILA MAJNU" sets a good example for other underrated films



Only few flim makers gets the chance to re-release their film in theatres, Recently Sajid Ali, Imtiaz Ali's brother was fortunate enough to get this chance.
Laila-Majnu is Sajid Ali's directorial debut film.
Laila majnu was initially released in theatres in 2018 but wasn't a commercial success, the film budget were around 10 crore to the producers but could only retrieve 2.89 crore from the theatre but after the re-release the numbers have reached upto 10.75 crore.
Prior it's re-release the film was an underrated gem, it was loved by the audience across Ott platforms, Currently it's IMDB rating is 7.7/10.
The best thing about re-release is that now the film will get the actual recognition what it deserves.
The movie deals with the notions of true love and intensity of heartbreak. First half of the showcases notoriousness and youthfull romance between the characters, Laila (Tripti Dimri) and Majnu(Avinash Tiwary) the drama, romance and intense acting by the characters glues the audience to their seats.
In an interview Imtiaz Ali said that, It was nothing less than enthusiasm for the people of Kashmir to watch a film in theatres of Kashmir as the land was going through period of crisis and unrest and they hadn't celebrated their own culture for the long time "When Laila-Majnu was initially released in 2018, there wasn't any theatre in Kashmir and now the film is being displayed in a theatre in Srinagar and leaving it's mark in heart of the audience.
In its earlier release the film couldn't last longer than 6 days in the theatres, earlier films used to get longer rope in the theatres like Sholay wasn't a instant  hit the film wasn't a commercial success in first three weeks but once it started earning then it looted enough.
But in recent times due to large of movies releasing every week films don't get enough chances.
The story of Laila-Majnu is a famous and tragic love story from Arabic and Persian literature that has been retold and adapted in various cultures over the centuries.
Laila-Majnu isn't any different from other Imtiaz Ali film, the songs from the film enhances it and provides specific character to the film, the music is contributed by the music director Niladri Kumar and the lyrics are penned by the master lyricist Irshad Kamil. Niladri Kumar won multiple awards as music director for the film Laila-Majnu.
'Aahista' song sung in the melodious voice of Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi hits different.
The film is shot in Kashmir cinematographer Sayak Bhattacharya has showcased the beauty of Kashmir tremendously well, the setting sun and the Chinaar and Dal lake are beautifully cinematographed.
The success of re-release of the film is like boon of life to the film makers so that they can continue making such cult films for the cult audience. All in all if you can deal with the small details showcased in the film then be ready for an intense emotional journey.
